Wells A were put through the wringer in their away match against Wedmore C on Sunday.

With soggy courts and heavy tennis balls ladies pair Marie Bruckshaw and Julia Nest could not find their game and were easily beaten in two sets by the Wedmore ladies.

Men’s pair Kevin Durney and Jack Williams were the opposite and powered through to even up the match in a clear two sets victory.

Onto the mixed rubbers and first pair of Nest and Durney had a three set battle strewn with lows (Durney on the floor and broken strings) and highs (an unexpected fight back).  Having lost the first set and being down match points in the second, the Wells duo managed to claw their way back into the rubber and in a surprise turn around take the third 6-0.

Second pair Bruckshaw and Williams had equal drama, they won the first set and were looking good in the second but disaster almost struck and the Wells pair had to take a medical time out for Williams.  Wedmore took the second set but Wells returned to the fight with grit and determination and they bravely took the third to win the rubber.

Wells A snatched overall victory 8-4.

Captain Nest could not thank her team enough for giving their absolute all in such difficult conditions, they did the club proud.
