Record entry for Wells Easter tournament
Wells Tennis Club traditional Easter Handicap Tournament started off the season with a record entry and warm sunny weather. Players of all standards from near beginners to league players, new and old club members, were all playing to win the coveted Easter egg prizes. The handicap system meant that everyone stood a chance of winning. After two hours of enjoyable tennis the only challenge was understanding the handicap system to make sure the scores were right. As usual it was a close competition with the men having three club stalwarts on equal points so it had to be decided by a spin of a racket resulting in Mike Lintern winning, Ray Brook as runner-up and John Valentine being the valiant but unlucky loser. The ladies had two players on equal points and by another spin of the racket Di Wiseman emerged the winner and Sarah Townsend the runner up. The tournament, organized by Ruth & Brian Clarke, was enjoyed by all competitors (and spectators) who all finished off their morning’s efforts with food and drink.
