Wells Ladies pre season friendly vs Torquay
Members of Wells Tennis Club’s ladies’ league teams traveled to the English Riviera last weekend for a friendly match against the ladies of Torquay Tennis Club.
Wells head coach, Kevin Durney, who has a long association with the Torquay club, was instrumental in opening up the channels of communication between the ladies of the two clubs to create this new fixture. The weather was not very fitting of the Riviera, with gale force winds producing dramatic coastal waves along Torquay promenade. However, this gave players the opportunity to test their skills outdoors in blustery conditions on clay, but also to enjoy matches which were played indoors under the shelter of the Torquay Club bubble.
Following play, the hosts provided a wonderful spread of homemade food and match scores were added up to reveal a victory for the Wells team.
A new cup was presented to the winning team, but will be played for again when the two teams meet for a return match in Wells to be held later in the season.
