All welcome at Wells Tennis Open Day

Wells Tennis Club is offering the chance for local people to give the game a try at their open day on Saturday 21st April.

Chairman Dan and Family at the tennis clubAll five courts and two mini courts will be packed with free tennis-related activities from 9.30am until 2pm.  As well as a chance to try tennis with award-winning coach Kevin Durney, refreshments and discounted memberships will be on offer.  Visitors don’t need a racquet – just some enthusiasm to give tennis a go.

The club now has more than 200 members who enjoy regular social games, competitions and discounted coaching at its site next to the football club on Rowden’s Road.

A 2016 study by Oxford University found that people who enjoyed racquet sports also enjoyed a longer life compared to other sports.  Researchers attributed the life-saving benefits of racquet sports to the mental and social benefits that go with the sport for all ages.

Kevin Durney, Wells Tennis Club coach and Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership Coach of the Year for 2017, said:

“Tennis is a great way to improve your health and social life at the same time.  I see new players gain improved stamina, agility and strength as well as developing tactical skills.  I’m looking forward to meeting beginners, rusty returners to the game and those who want competition at our open day.”
