Men’s A, make hay while the sun shines

Wells Men’s A Team have had two successful weeks on the bounce. On 16th May they played host to Wedmore’s C Team who unfortunately could only field one pair. This meant they lost two matches 6-0, 6-0 by default. Kevin Durney and James Edwards wasted no time in winning their match 6-1, 6-1. Unfortunately second pair Matt Goatcher and Derk Erkelens could not repeat the result and lost a closely fought match 7-6, 4-6, 6-4. Wells came away 9-2 winners.

The following week Wells headed over to Woodland in Weston to play their B team with new coach Tomas Simko standing in for Kevin. Woodland has no floodlights so there was some pressure to finish the matches before sunset. James and Tomas swept through their first match 6-1, 6-0 under clear blue skies while Matt and Derk enjoyed another 3 set epic winning it 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. James and Tomas once again looked strong as they won their second match 6-4, 6-0. Matt and Derk were again taken to a third set and in the fading light they edged a championship tie-break to win 6-3, 2-6, (10-5). Wells came away 10-2 winners and are looking good in Division 2 approaching the halfway point of the season. They visit rivals Wedmore B Team after the Bank Holiday weekend.
