Wells A v Clevedon B

Wells A team played their last match of the Winter League on a sunny, but chilly Sunday morning against Clevedon B at Clevedon. Wells A Ladies, Vicky Flicker and Sarah Townsend got Wells off to a good start and won 6/0 6/1 against Clevedon’s Caroline Lavis and Gill Grinyer. Sarah usually plays on the left and Vicky on the right, but they decided to change and Vicky moved to left and Sarah to right court. The move proved successful and utilised Sarah’s powerful cross court return and Vicky’s slice backhand return.

Wells men pairing of Matt Goatcher and Dave Cotton played courageously, but lost 5/7 2/6 to Stuart Bannerman and Filip Madzelewsk.
With 1 rubber each it was down to the mixed. Matt Goatcher and Vicky Flicker lost 1/6 3/6 and Dave Cotton and Sarah Townsend won 6/2 6/2. The final score was a tie on rubbers and sets and Wells secured the win on games, 35 to 30.
