Stamp of approval for Wells Tennis Club

Wells Tennis Club announced its formal approval from the Lawn Tennis Association of the ‘Tennismark’ award at its AGM on Wednesday 24th February.  The club also elected new committee members and a new chair, Dan Cooke.

Wells Tennis Club comittee with tennismark awardThe ‘Tennismark’ status recognises that the club has good standards of management, employment, coaching, competition opportunities and promotion.  Securing the accreditation will help the club apply for grants and further support from national sporting organisations.

At its AGM long-standing chair Brian Clarke stood down and Dan Cooke was elected to the position.

Brian Clarke said:

“I’ve valued the opportunity to lead the club for so many years and I’m delighted that we are now enjoying growing numbers, a secure coaching programme and new opportunities for younger players.”

New chair Dan Cooke was new to the sport when he joined the club eight years ago.  He has since developed his tennis skills to play in the club D team and the winter league.  He said:

Dan Cooke“I’m very much planning to build on some great foundations for the club to continue to thrive and prosper.  I have long-term intentions for the role and want to ensure that members and visitors alike have a quality experience when they visit our much-loved club. It’s a great asset for Wells and achieving the LTA’s Tennismark shows that we offer a quality club for players at all levels.
