Winter Mid-Point League Update Across the Teams

After a much fought request of dates from opponents, November became the dominant month, with 11 of our 13 matches and most of them at home.  Disappointingly, one team pulled out from Division 4 leaving 2 fewer games for our B team.

The C team opened the season in October with a confident start, particularly with Arabella and Chie taking a strong win for the ladies, but unfortunately, Lympsham C prevailed with a victory overall.

Then November hit.

With the loss of Mark and Jack from our A team, there was much rejigging of players.  Made worse by our opening match against Victoria A including two highly ranked male players, yet Wendy and Rebecca continued the ladies consistency with a great victory in their match.  However, this seemed to become a theme for the next couple of matches.  Then Kevin stepped in!  The balance of results took a shift, with Wendy, Rebecca, Kevin and Rory taking the first A team victory (9-4), with the last match for this half of the season.

Meanwhile, the B team (Matt Jenkins, Sean, Izzy and Corali) opened with a 4-4 draw, with the opposition playing their coach.  Unfortunately, the trend at this point was a tricky one, with a series of losses.  However, there were many matches that led to 3rd set tie-breaks, but credit to Avenue A, which fielded an incredibly strong team for this division.

The C team, however, took a more overall positive run, with 2 wins and 1 loss; the last match being postponed to the new year due to weather.  A particular mention to our two junior players: Emilia and Ernest, both performing strongly.

We’ve found ourselves in a tough position after this first half, but let’s see how the second half turns out!

With many members, playing higher than usually expected, well done to everyone.
