Mens League Report

The League season ended with mixed fortunes for Wells’ various men’s teams. The A Team had a closely fought battle with Wedmore B and were edged out 8-3. Unfortunately Matt Goatcher and Marcus Fisher failed to pick up any sets in their two matches but Tomas Simko and Kevin Durney won one match and lost a close 3 set match 6-4, 5-7, 5-7. This result left them in 3rd place in Division 2, missing out on promotion by 2 points.

The B Team had their chances but only managed to pick up 2 points at home to Priory A. However that was enough to see them promoted after a strong season in Division 5. They are looking forward to the challenges of a tougher division next season.

The C Team needed a convincing win and for results to go their way in order to avoid relegation from Division 5. Unfortunately neither happened as they lost 10-0 away to Avenue C while Priory A picked up points against Wells B. Consequently they will be in Division 6 next season. They will be joined by Wells D who sealed promotion with an emphatic 10-1 win at home to Congresbury B in Division 7. That put them in second place – equal on points with first place Winscombe C.

Men’s Captain Matt Goatcher said “After a competitive season with some great matches and the usual peppering of injuries two promotions from four teams is a pleasing result. I am already looking forward to getting the teams ready for next season.”
