Partnership boosts tennis participation
More than 50 people, including children, adults and current members, visited Wells Tennis Club on Saturday to try out the sport during the club’s annual open day.
Thanks to a partnership with The Blue School in Wells extra support was on hand to help promote and run the event. BTEC Business Studies students have been using their planning skills to work on the open day as the practical part of their studies on event management.
New faces through the gates at the club were able to try out coaching, cardio tennis and new rackets from Tony Pryce Sports.
Coach Kevin Durney said:
“It was great to see more children and families visiting the courts on Saturday. We have lots of coaching that runs through the week that is open to non members so there is still plenty of opportunity for more people to take up their rackets once again.”
Blue School BTEC Business Studies teacher Graham Downer said:
“The support provided by Wells Tennis Club was invaluable in the lead up to the event and allowed the students to develop many new skills concerning the practical and legal aspects of event management. We are very grateful to the club for the opportunity to partner with them on this event and delighted to have helped with visitor numbers on the day.”
The next free event at Wells Tennis Club is the LTA’s Great British Tennis Weekend on 2nd July.
