Super Results from Wells Ladies D
Wells D Ladies hosted Lympsham B for a really enjoyable evening on court.
First pair of Caroline Hamilton and Rowan Stewart fought well; having lost a close first set, they took the second but sadly couldn’t sustain their momentum and lost in three.
Second pair of Sarah Powell and Deborah Woolven-Orrett also had a three set marathon, mirroring the first pair by losing the first set but they dug in and won the next two sets to take the rubber.
After a well earned pause for refreshments, Hamilton and Stewart came out flying, taking a very comfortable victory against the second pair, they really flew the flag for Wells.
Once more, Powell and Woolven-Orrett would not be out done, taking an easy first set against the first pair. Lympsham did not give in though and with a little inconsistency from Wells, they took the next two sets and the rubber.
Overall Wells won 8-5. Captain, Woolven-Orrett said fun was definitely had and bravo to all.
Wells D ladies were given a warm welcome by Avenue B on Tuesday.
Captain for the match, Arabella Browne partnered Ann Langdon. They had a slow start, losing the first set but fought back to take the second. This took them into a deciding set but sadly the Wells pair lost momentum and the rubber slipped from their racquets.
Second pair of Sarah Montagnon and Rowan Stewart played well to win their rubber in straight sets, even with Avenue playing more confidently as the match went along.
Returning to play after a lovely tea, both teams found the attention of mosquitoes a most unwelcome distraction and there was a great deal of leg and arm slapping between points!
Arabella and Ann had another three setter, which was decided by a match tie break in the third and with great determination the Wells pair won through.
Sarah and Rowan had an equally good fight, which could only be decided in a match tie break also. The Wells duo came out on top, which meant Wells D took overall victory 9-4.
Captain, Browne was happy her team overcame some tough opponents and the mosquitoes in this Division 7 match in the North Somerset Tennis League.
