Winter League Wins vs Backwell B

Wells B Team had a floodlit match on Friday evening against Backwell B and came out shining victors.  It was a close fought battle, with the ladies pairing of Binkie Heather and Julia Nest using consistent play to win in 2 sets.  

The men’s pairing of Colin Blatchford Brown and new club member, Jack Williams, had a more arduous time.  They lost the first set to the crafty Backwell men and were down 2-5 in the second but then their fight back began!  They not only won 5 games in a row to take the match into a deciding set but pushed on to take a hard fought overall victory.

Moving on to the mixed matches, Wells first pairing of Nest and Williams overcame the solid tactics of the Backwell couple in 2 sets.  The second pairing of Heather and Blatchford Brown had another exciting 3 set match but sadly were just edged out in a match tie-break.  Wells took overall victory 9-3.  Team Captain Nest said,

“She was extremely proud of the team’s fighting attitude and with many tight rallies their consistent play was key to another wonderful win and valuable points to add to their total in the North Somerset Tennis League”.
