Wells A had an epic battle with Congresbury A on Friday7 January, which was to be expected when the top two teams in the Division faced off.
Mens pair Mark Preston and Tom Wilson had a tough match against the high level of play from the Congresbury team and sadly lost in two sets but gained some valuable experience.
Ladies pair Marie Bruckshaw and Julia Nest knew they had to keep their play solid when Congresbury edged the first set of their rubber, in a tie break. They dug in and pulled the second set back and kept their foot on the gas in the deciding set, taking the rubber in this close fought affair.
First mixed pair Julia Nest and Tom Wilson put up a good effort but just couldn’t get a foot hold in the rubber, losing in two sets.
Second mixed pair Marie Bruckshaw and Mark Preston used some fine tactics and took their rubber decisively in two sets.
Wells A only just missed the win but Captain Julia Nest was more than happy with the professional attitude her players brought to this challenging match and they still took some valuable points towards promotion in the division.
