Sunday saw Wells B play host to visitors Backwell B
In bright sunshine the ladies pairing of Julia Nest and Ginni Smith took to the court. They found it hard to find their range and promptly lost the first set 1-6. After re-grouping and finally finding the punishing ground shots they are renowned for, they cruised to victory 6-1 6-1.
The regular pairing of Dave Mills and Martyn Holliday equally struggled in the first set and had to battle back from being 2-5 down to claim the first set 7-6 on a tie break. They couldn’t consolidate the win and lost the second set 4-6, before sailing to a 6-2 final set win.
The first mixed pair of Smith and Holliday went down in the first set 3-6, but dished out and an equal retort taking the second set 6-3. Unfortunately they couldn’t keep the momentum going and lost 0-6 in the third. Nest and Mills had no such problems and put in a workmanlike performance winning 6-4 6-3.
Wells B won the clash 9-4 overall.
