Wells Tennis Club Weekly Match Report 9th and 10th June

It’s been another busy and exciting week for Wells Tennis Club, with all teams taking to the courts and delivering a mixture of outstanding victories, closely-fought encounters, and determined performances in testing conditions.

Men’s Teams Results 9th June

Men’s A (Mark, Matt S, Matt G, Kevin)
The Men’s A team continued their strong season with a dominant 10-1 win over Weston. The team’s consistency and sharp play were evident throughout the fixture, as they overpowered their opponents with a professional performance that keeps their momentum rolling.

Men’s B (Rob, Matt B, Tom, Jake)
Challenging weather made things difficult for the Men’s B team as they faced North Somerset Tennis Academy. Despite a spirited effort and several competitive sets, they fell to a tough 8-3 loss. The team will look to bounce back next week with the same fighting spirit.

Men’s C (Dave, JC, Marcus, Alex)
In a tightly contested clash with Backwell B, the Men’s C team edged out a 7-5 win. With each rubber closely fought, it was composure under pressure that saw Wells through in the final stages of a gripping match.

Men’s D (Martyn, Sean, Mike, Matthew J)
In one of the week’s most dramatic matches, the Men’s D team were taking on Cleve B when the lights went out during the final tie-break, leaving the score at 8-4 in Wells’ favour. The match will be completed at a later date, with a 10-2 or 9-3 win on the cards for Wells depending on the final tie outcome. An exciting finish still to come.

Ladies’ Teams Results 10th June

Enjoying fine weather and even finer form, the Ladies A team delivered a strong 8-2 away win over Backwell. Confident net play and strong baseline consistency saw them take control early and maintain it throughout the match.

Ladies B (Corali, Jade, Caroline, Kara)
The Ladies B team faced a tough Lympsham A side and ultimately fell to an 8-2 defeat. Despite the scoreline, there were strong efforts from the team, who kept pushing in some closely contested sets.

Ladies C (Arabella, Chie, Binkie, Anne)
Wells C were part of one of the tightest matches of the week against Bridgwater C. With the score tied at 5 sets all, the match was decided by a narrow margin on countback, with Wells losing 7-2 after falling short by just two games. A heartbreaking result in a match that could have gone either way.

Ladies D (Joyce, Becky, Jane L, Helen)
The standout result of the week came from the Ladies D team, who swept Avenue aside with a resounding 10-0 win. It was a complete team performance from start to finish, reflecting the squad’s depth and cohesion.

Wells Tennis Club continues to showcase strength across the board, with excellent wins and encouraging signs even in defeat. With more fixtures ahead, the club looks well set for continued success this season.
