Wells Tennis Club Weekly Match Report – June 16th & 17th

It was another action-packed couple of days for Wells Tennis Club, with all four men’s and three of the ladies’ teams taking to the courts in league action.

Men’s Teams – Sunday 16th June

Men’s A Team – A Win and a Birthday to Remember
The Men’s A team headed away to face Winscombe and returned victorious. The team of Mark, Matt S, Tom D and Matt G played solidly throughout, securing a strong win. A special shout-out goes to Mark, who not only delivered on court but celebrated a landmark birthday on the night – turning 18!

Mark has grown up at Wells Tennis Club, developing through our junior programme, representing Somerset at various age levels, qualifying as an LTA Level 2 coach, and even gracing the courts at Wimbledon. It was a fitting way to mark a big day – congratulations and Happy Birthday, Mark!

Men’s B Team – Battling Brilliance at Home
Meanwhile, back at Wells, the Men’s B team also faced Winscombe in what turned out to be another great contest. Jake, Matt B, Marek, and Charlie played with consistency and flair to record a well-earned 9-4 win against a strong side.

Men’s C Team – Fighting Spirit Despite Loss
The Men’s C team of JC, Marcus, Rob, and Karl put in a commendable performance away against Congresbury. Although they narrowly missed out with a 10-3 score line, the team showed great determination and sportsmanship throughout.

Men’s D Team – Digging Deep for the Win
Rounding off the Sunday fixtures, the D team of Alex, Dave, Martyn, and George W played a tightly contested home match. Their effort paid off with a well-fought 7-4 victory, showing depth and resilience across the club’s men’s squads.

Ladies’ Teams – Monday 17th June

Ladies A Team – Strong Performance Against Wrington
Wells A team – Ines, Charli, Becky, and Wendy – welcomed Wrington, an all-teacher side, and started the evening in style. The team maintained momentum throughout the match and came away with a confident 9-3 win.

Ladies B Team – Winning by the Narrowest Margin
It couldn’t have been tighter in the B team’s home clash, with Caroline, Vicky, Alison, and Corali drawing 4-4 in sets. The final result came down to games, and Wells edged out their opponents with a slender 5-game advantage, claiming the win 6-4 on countback. Every game counted!

Ladies C Team – Tough Opposition for a Determined Team
The C team of Arabella, Chie, Anne, and Lucy faced a strong Clevedon side and, despite putting up a solid fight, fell short with a 10-1 loss. Spirits remained high, and the team is ready to bounce back next week.

Ladies D Team – A Week Off, Eyes Ahead
The D team didn’t have a fixture this week but are preparing for their upcoming match against Avenue and are eager to get back on court.

Well Played to All!
A fantastic week of tennis all round, with highlights including wins across all levels, strong team spirit, and a special birthday celebration for a standout club member.

Good luck to all teams in their next matches
